GPU Usage in menus

Hi,

This has been bugging me for the last few weeks since I picked up my 970.

Why is GPU usage (and in turn temperatures) high in menus in-game? i.e the Pause menu.


I always notice the fan speed ramps up if I leave it on the pause menu for a while - as goes GPU usage. Seems to happen in most games?

The FPS skyrockets into the hundreds or thousands even. You can use a frame limiter to cap the FPS.

I have V-Sync set on though, wouldn't that be doing it? (FPS stays at 60)


Edit: Just googled frame limiters, will try it out this evening.

Use digital river tuner from MSI afterburner to cap the FPS.

check your v-sync options in your nvidia control panel, and force to "ON".

a lot of games don't have v-sync active in the menus for some weird reason, so your comp is pushing 575839 frames per second or w/e for no reason.

load up fraps and monitor frame rates in menus to find out..!

edit: whoops just seen already answered..!

I think a lot of games only use vsync in-engine, not during menus.
