Running heaven to test my new card, gpu usage jumps down to 64% and back up to 100%, and the clocks seem to jump between the overclock setting, stock 3d clocks 950MHz, and 850MHz. I reinstalled the drivers and afterburner, but it seems the problem remains. Any idea what went wrong?

12.11 beta11. I've uninstalled, used driver sweeper, uninstalled AB, reinstalled both, but the 3d clocks go up and down between all manner of values 543,640, 850, etc. It seems totally random. It's driving me mad!

Out of interest which card is it?

Also does it work without Afterburner installed/running? So just the drivers + a Heaven run...

Yep, the AB overclock stuck with the driver so at 1000/1350 I scored 1446, which is about right. So I think the issue is AB playing silly buggers.

Hmmm it seems a little low.

At 800/1250 I get 1550 ish in Heaven.

Try a different beta driver or alternatively 12.10.

Failing that you could do a Windows wipe and start again (the non-destructive method).

The downclock/low usage probably occurs whilst the scene is changing.

What processor do you have? As Rusty mentioned, that score is a bit low for a 7950.

No it's up and down through the whole bench. Furmark too. It doesn't even go between set clocks, it seems to assign values randomly. I'll have a play around with trixx tomorrow and see if that helps.

I had this even though completely removing drivers and starting again. Turns out even with afterburner, for me, until after numerous reboots and then eventually enabling the overdrive in ccc to overclock it seemed to do the job and it fixed it.

^^ This. The 12.11 beta11 caused me some headaches. Go back to the 12.10s and enjoy your 7950

I'll give this a go, or at least I'll try an older beta. Interesting to see someone else with a HIS card having the same issues with AB. I do like AB for monitoring though so I'll try to roll back the drivers before giving up and using some other app to overclock

I'm using beta 11 but I have mine stable now but it's overclocked via ccc, I use AB for monitoring and a custom fan profile. I found uninstalling all amd drivers and cap then restart, then re install and reboot seemed to do the job.

Interestingly HIS's own iTurbo seemed to work but even on same setting as ccc it hangs my displays when they are in sleep mode and only way to fix is reboot so I avoid using that too. Shame as that appears to have voltage control where it only works in AB if you force constant voltage. Either that or need to flash the other bios slot with one that isn't voltage locked and use that.

Aha. I've been playing around and it looks like AB isn't setting the voltage I'm inputting. So I put 1.2V for 1100/1350 and it runs 1.08v, which is too much to be vdroop. I'll try forcing constant voltage to see if that fixes it. Quite irritating when AB doesn't work well with your card, I've always lucked out in the past and had it work flawlessly.

Yeah it works if you force constant, trouble is then it doesn't drop when the card is idle :(

Another member here provides a bios which seems to work well for him, it's a 7970 bios:

I think this is the only way forward with these cards if we want to go past just upping the power to 20% in ccc and adding a small oc. And since there is a spare bios slot it's worth a crack, I'll be giving it a go when I get chance....

Thanks dude, that seems to cover my issues. I'll have a go at that when I get home!

No worries! Seems the link to the bios on that thread no longer works - I've already downloaded ready for when the wife allows me time to play!! If you pm me your email addy I can forward on.

Will do. Where is the bios switch on the card? I've never flashed a card before so want to make sure I don't brick it!
