over the last week or so my GPU as started to hit 100c hot spot and some times shouting down. iv been in contact with gigabyte that told me to repast the cooler.
to do this i would have to brake the seal on the screw will this void my remaining 4 years of warranty.

if it turns out to not fix the problem would they still honor the warranty, or do i just send back to the shop for RMA

If you have evidence of them stating you can do this then I cant see why not. What is your situation on the warranty, normally you would exhaust the retailer first?

It’s a 5 year warranty but just under 4 left, I thought after the first 12 months you went to the marker?
Your contract is always with the retailer so always contact the retailer first, if you send it to the manufacturer or do something based on what the manufacturer said (and not the retailer) then you could lose your sale of good act rights to a refund if anything goes wrong

If you contact the retailer and they say you need to contact the manufacturer then you are covered

But yes, I have a 2080ti that started thermal throttling and a repaste resolved the issue, so if you are confident in being able to do a repaste then it will probably fix the issue, but get it in writing from both retailer and manufacturer that they told you to do this yourself.

Warranty seals are not enforceable if you have a record that the retailer has done something (e.g. told you to break the seal)

If you have it from the manufacturer that they are happy for the gpu to be repasted, then that should be fine, as other manufacturers have also said the same in the past, without it affecting the warranty.

Do bare in mind though, if you damage the card while doing the repaste then your on your own, as that would be down to incompetence and not product failure. So not covered by warranty.
