Hello,

I'm rocking the BenQ XL2411Z

enQ XL2411 24" 144hz monitor. I had a 980ti which recently died on me and I was using a white cable which I believe it to be DVI. However, due to every gpu being out of stocked I found a gpu I wish to buy in the meantime however it only supports HDMI. What the hell am I suppose to do? Sure there are specpfic adaptors which do HMDI > DVI but will it maintain my 144hz and won't it give me input lag?
I don't understand how I can get around this without buying a new monitor. I just spent a lot of money on a new pc which arrives tomorrow, I'm trying to get a temp gpu but it only supports HDMI.

Whats the best solution for this problem?

Best solution is to get a newer monitor with display port. You can try getting around it with adapters but they are a bit hit and miss in my experience and the money would be better spent getting a new 24" 144hz 1080p monitor IMO.

i don't think you understand. i just spend over 1k on new parts for my pc which come tomorrow. my 980ti died last week and i'm looking for a new gpu to put in my new system. i don't have the funds to buy a new monitor when i have a perfectly good 1080p monitor to use.

You just need to make sure the adapter supports dual link DVI.

However, since you mention DVI I expect you have the 2411p which has a DisplayPort port and you could use that instead.

can you link me the specific adapter I need? Will it still give me 144hz?

You might get lucky with an HDMI/Display port to Dual Link DVI adapter but I'd not count on it if I were you. Or if your monitor supports Display Port just use that, I assumed it didn't as that would have been the obvious solution.

This is what my monitor has https://gyazo.com/4ea09eff5e8e79e4792863ba4ca8adf4

So there is no guarantee I can find a adaptor which will fit in my DVI monitor straight into a RTX card which doesn't have DVI whilst mainting it's quality and 144hz? I've encountered problerm after problem this wee. My entire PC dies along with my 980ti and now I'm trying to find a replacement GPU but it turns out my monitor won't connect to the GPU lol.

If you do have the XL2411p then a cheap Displayport cable should work fine e.g.

Total: £10.65 (includes shipping: £4.66)

However it sounds like you have the XL2411 which has VGA/HDMI/DL-DVI then you are basically out of luck (as the HDMI only offers 60hz)

The only adapter that might work is the Startech Active Dual link one, however given the price then you would be better spending that on a newer monitor

:( i'm having to overpay for a gpu due to the current situtation and to even use the gpu i will need a new monitor, what a crap week

will that Startech adapter give me quality and the 144hz though? I'm willing to pay that just to be happy.

For £190 you could get a new 144hz - 1080P monitor, spending that much on an adapter is a bit nuts. If I were you I'd sell your current monitor and put the money + £190 you're talking about spending on the adapter towards a decent 1440P screen.

i have new parts for a pc tomorrow and i'm battling to find a gpu which will replace the 980ti. i'm looking at overpaying for a RTX 2060 just so I can stay happy with performance which my 980ti gave me.
now i have to think about upgrading my monitor. if i'm buying a monitor i should go for a 1440p one, right? it will feel silly buying a new 1080p monitor again when the one i have now is in a flawless condition.

It'd be more sensible than spending £190 on a new adapter, you should get good money for your current given it's in such good condition. Going for a resolution bump will make it feel a bit more worthwhile too, so it's what I would do in your situation.

Something like one of the above should fit the bill, I'd hunt for more but OCUK's website is awful for searching for some things, they really need to implement more (controllable) search filters.

I haven't really been able to understand monitors. which is the best panel type and do i need freesync or gsync? there are so many options. Which one would be best for quality picture and performance for 144hz? I'm used to 144hz from my 1080p display, so I can't really afford to go unde again.

BenQ XL2411Z Gaming 24" 144Hz LED Monitor is the one I have

Same as the "standard" XL2411 then - Use a HDMI cable and accept 60hz in the short term, but only real solution is to buy a new monitor

now i need to rethink this idea of buying the 2060. the idea was to buy the 2060 because i know it would be perfect for 1080p gaming now if I get a 1440p monitor I have no idea how it will perform, never had a 1440p monitor in my life :(

I wouldn'rt be so sad if I could get my hands on a decent gpu. A new monitor will be awful without a high end gpu. For example coming from a 1080p display andn ever struggling to maintain 144hz due to good fps from my 980ti then upgrading to a 1440p 144hz with no gpu is painful lol.

I still have my mind set on a RTX 2060 for £400. Will this GPU be sufficient for a 1440p 144hz display?

I didn't realise prices had gone quite that mad... At least your faulty 980ti also has over inflated value now so you could sell that on an internet auction site to claw back a few pennies!

how much could i sell a faulty 980ti lol. the pcb components burnt i think.

Ebay lets you search for 'sold listings' -- when looking up "Parts only/faulty 980ti" it seems they go for between £40-80 depending on the model and condition.

Better than a slap in the face tbh.

I'm assuming this isn't against Forum T&C since he's talking about selling a faulty item.

As for what GPU you should aim for, keep an eye on OCUK's new forum section for "Member Deals" if you have access to it. With a little luck you should be able to get your hands on something like a 3060ti or 6700XT for close to MSRP.

how often? i search everyday for a gpu which is similar to 3060ti bots seem to beat everything :(

i don't see member deals, how do i get access?
