I just got a 1080 ti evga kingpin, and my case is the fractal design r5. ive spent the past few hours trying to connect it but for some reason, the card locks into place in the pcie slot, but the left side (towards the back of the pc) still comes out, no matter how far i push it in it still doesnt lock in properly. because of this, the card is only half connected and i get no signal to my monitor. ive tried this with a corsair 570x aswell and the same problem, is this a common problem and is there a way to fix it?

Are you getting prongs on the bottom of the PCIE bracket of the card caught in the cutouts of the case? They need to be sliding between the motherboard and back of the case (maybe insert that end first?)

Got any pics?

whats a prong?, yea ill upload pics in a minute

Dunno what its called - prongy bit:

this was the best i could get, if the lock mechanism is in its locked position, am i suppose to be able to move in and out the card from the left side? as far as i can tell the prunes are in and the metal thing is very close to the pcie opening on my case, but on both the corsair 570x and fractal design r5 it just keeps slipping out of the pcie slot?

Really hard to tell how this is possible - I would remove the PCIE blanking plates from the slot above and bewow the card and try to reseat again - how far away are the screw holes on the back of the cae that you secure the card with - I take it they dont reach currently?

can you elaborate i dont really understand. on my fractal case all the blanking plates are removed (assuming you mean the metal things with 1 screw), and no the screws do actually fit, ive tried tightening them in but it still doesnt work. its as if the card doesnt want to lock into the slot. one thing worth noting is that atleast some of it is registered by the mobo because the displayport output on the motherboard does not work either. and while starting up theres no signal, but for some reason after about 30 seconds or so (im assuming when windows has started) there is a signal but its just a black screen. i dont think the card is dead because the power seems to be working fine with all the lighting etc

Ahhh that looks normal in the new photo
i just tried it on the aorus z370 with no case and i think it went in? i cant say for sure as i had to hold up the mobo so the prongy bits could push through, and also the other side was sharp as hell. i guess its just unlucky that 2 cases dont work with this gpu? its so weird because a strix card which is more or less the same size works fine.

Take out off of the expansion port covers around where you want the card to slot. Try to align the card and push it in straight down, so that neither end of the card meets the socket first.
Is there room for movement of your motherboard, if you unscrew all of the screws into the case just a little to allow you to move it closer/further away from the side of the case?

I've never had issues installing cards into an R5, and it's a pretty popular/common case, so this issue is new to me!

I think it's the IO bracket on the card . I'm guessing the small flap the folds over onto the cooler part is clashing with the IO cover on the board .
Your Imgur image shows that the IO bracket looks exactly like Aorus waterblock which had same issue and was recalled and changed .

If their is no cover on the mobo might be fouling with the case

I didn't read the rest of the post but some cards will not fit some motherboards. A real classic is that some Gigabyte 1080's will not fit in some of the more expensive Gigabyte motherboards. The simple reason is there is something in the way that stops the card going all the way down. In the case of the Gigabyte motherboards its a senseless piece of plastic that covers the audio chip.

does the board have another slot to try it in?

Not sure what motherboard he is using as the first looks to be ASUS Sabertooth Z170 and the other looks to be the Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 7.

If it's the Sabertooth, it should fit in the second slot, but if it's the Aorus it wont as the cover plate runs down to the bottom of the board.
