Gpu works in test bench but not in case.

As the title says. I've put together a system of old spare parts I had laying around and bought a new ssd and case.

I assembled a test bench to make sure it was all fine. It booted into bios every time.
It's an fm2+ board with an x4 760k. 8gb of ddr3 4x2, and a radeon hd 7970 3gb.
On test bench I get full output to monitor but in the case I don't.

I've looked at standoffs they all look right place. I tried in the case with just what I had connected in test bench. Cpu, ram, mobo. Still no signal. The gpu is huge and heavy but its seated just fine in the case just as on bench.

What could I be doing wrong? I take the board out and everything works again. Something has to be a miss but I'm at a loss.

Thanks.

No I've checked that it's fully seated. Also tried other slots on bench aswell and they all work but none work when in the case.

It's an aero cool Cs 105 cosmo. Cheap thing. Is it possible when I screw the mounting screws for the gpu in that it's lifting the gpu slightly out of the slot.

Edit. So that's hdmi dp and vga all work to my monitor on the bench. But with the exact hardware installed but in the case instead none of the ports work. Got to be something stupid obvious lol. The 7970 has two 8 pin pcie connectors and they are seated properly too.

2nd edit update. I've switched out the hd 7970 for a gtx 1050 ti and that works fine in the case. Something is occurring or shorting with this big card in this case.

Maybe try putting the system in the case but just leave the door off and have the PSU outside the case? Would eliminate any problems to do with cable routing and make it easier to make double sure all the cables are seated fully.

Maybe also try not screwing the graphics card in (with case on its side so there's not too much stress on the pci slot) in case it is getting pulled out a bit like you wondered about?

Other potential issue, are you able to plug the cables in fully to the back of the graphics card when it's in the case or does part of the frame round the pci slots stop you getting it in all the way?

Connections connections connections. Sounds stupid but have you double and triple checked all of them? Makes 0 sense why it wouldn't work in case but would out of it. Unless case or standoffs are shorting mb and then it probs wouldn't even turn on.

Angelwolf yes I'm using the same psu as in the case. Gratauk slim and Jay ill try your suggestions and get back later. No it doesn't have integrated gpu.

I'll check standoffs again. I'll keep the psu outside and just plug in what I need. Keep the system on its side and not screw down the 7970. If that works I'll then start to take more steps to completion and see where the issue is.

I suspect big heavy card doesn't stay well enough in the slot.
Try with case turned sideways so that card's weight pushes it straight into slot just like in testbench.

Ugh what an idiot. I tried everything above nothing worked. Just as I was about to give up again for the night I thought no ill rip it apart do it all again.

Then it stared me right in the face under the motherboard. An extra standoff in an unused position, which would have been making contact with my board underneath. Considering it worked with the 1050 ti I can only assume that's because it didn't weigh down the board like the 7970 does. A quick pull of that standoff and reseat the board. Connected everything and the 7970 boots in the case and now windows 10 is installing on my ssd.

Thanks guys. Classic fool. Let this thread be a warning to people no matter how experienced you think you are. Always tripple check stuff.

Haha wow! Awesome you found it though. It was bound to be that or connections. Weird it didn't do it with the other gpu.

People (including myself) have made much sillier mistakes though dude don't worry
