I can also confirm this works with a HD 4850, but clock for clock the PPD is not better than a HD 38xx card. Either its really inneficient on a HD 4850 or it isnt anywhere close to using all 800 shaders.

FYI about the 4850, getting within 20% of a 38xx card is normal. The current core doesn't scale to the 800 processors. This will improve in the future.

I'm hoping to buy a 4850 card for the folding box as soon as I see some optimized core PPDs. It SHOULD be very good, however I'm going to wait and see how much CPU time it's going to take to feed 800 shaders. It's more power efficient than the 9800GTX+ too.

With a e8400@3ghz I get ~1500ppd @ stock clocks (625mhz) for the hd4850.

In comparison, with my hd3850 @ 810 mhz with the e8400@3ghz I used to get ~2000ppd.

If you then compensate for the clock difference. (625/810)*2000 ~ 1500. Therefore, it isnt using any more than 320 shaders. This is all guesswork obviously.
