I am probably going to build a new PC in the next few months or so but don't want to invest in an expensive GPU if there's going to be something important coming soon.

Any news?

as far as i know, AMD are not doing anything big this year (i think, not 100% sure)

as for nvidia, they are supposed to be releasing a kepler refresh in june/july

What gpu do you have at the mo Skyfall?
560 TI

There are plenty of games it completely destroys but there are a growing number where I can't reach full ultra (or close) 60fps and I'm feeling the itch to upgrade but want to make it worthwhile.

The main concern is that I know there are going to be a lot of games that are going to really push my system this year and next like watchdogs.

I think more than anything it's the itch though :) I think I could probably wait till the end of the year.

I was finding with the 6950s just like you were, I was going to wait until the 8000 series, I kept looking in the "Clearance" section and picked up 2 Gigabyte 7950s for £199.99 each and managed to blag the "Reloaded bundle"

I think you should wait until summer because I suspect based on some rumours I have heard that AMD will be bringing out new cards either quarter 2 or quarter 3 (certainly not as late as end of the year since they just showcased 7990s at a tech show last week).

I wouldn't be surprised if we see new GPU either just before or just after Piledriver launch which is currently looking to be quarter 3.

So yeah, I would say wait a little or go SLI to keep the itch scratched if you must...

I don't think you could go wrong with a 7950 because they can be had for a little over £200 (plus you get at least £30's worth of free games which you can sell on if you want) and it performs very close to 7970 levels.

If you wait you might not see any new cards until Q4 and even then they will be priced at a premium for several months afterwards so you won't be getting as much performance for the price.

AMD are continuing with 7000 series cards with various rejigs of the line up. nVidia is bringing _something_ relevant to high end gaming out about June/July but no one seems to know for sure what.

I get the feeling AMD and nVidia may be holding off for 20nm before doing a proper new release (TSMC is supposedly more than 2 months ahead of schedule but no idea if that will have any effect on GPUs) - nVidia have been putting some effort into Kayla recently which is also an important milestone for Maxwell due to the ARM integration which makes me wonder if the 700 series might be skipped altogether or just be a intermediate rehash of GK110.
