Hi,

I have just ordered a new build, i7 860, MSI P55-GD80, 8gb corsair dominator 1600. With a corsair 850hx PSU. I intend to OC to 3.8Ghz using windows 7 and a 64gb supertalent ssd for os and 1tb for games.

This is a pure gaming PC, running at 1920x1200 on 24" lcd

Initially I will run with a single 8800gt I have spare, but I want to upgrade next month.

I am going Nvidia SLI and intend to use my 8800gt as a Physx card.

Whats the best bang for the buck?

1xgtx295

2xgtx285

2xgtx275

Your not interested in the new next gen ATI DX11 GPU's being released next week ??

Which is a good point. Thks for reminding me. I think I will wait and see. I got caught up in the Intel launch and forgot about the new ATI stuff. More money FFS!

Chances are it'll be less money to be honest.

Less money for the same or more performance depending on what you get. :)

My price was an approx price. BTW the "value" ones U listed are 199 each, not two for £346. Plus I wouldn't buy that generic card, preferring a pucker branded card with a German 2 year guarantee. Anyhow after a quick search I can get 2x285=500 euro, we have VAT in Germany at 19% not UK 15%. Also I claim back my VAT here so no eek.

There is no point in getting into get into a debate over UK vs Germany because I know I will win:)

Forget price. 1xgtx295 vs 2xgtx285 vs 2x275???

Well, according to Toms Hardware: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/geforce-gtx-sli,review-31577.html

Two 275s are better than one 295.

How the three compare with each other can be found here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/chart...tml?prod[2658]=on&prod[2666]=on&prod[2657]=on

They are all pretty close. Or you could go mad and SLi two 295s together...

At the end of the day, they are all quite close as you can see from that chart I posted.

Thanks for the chart. To me 2xgtx275 look the best bang for the buck. 2xgtx295 as you say would be mad overkill.

How much of a performance hit does socket 1156 take from not supporting 16x/16x SLI/Xfire. Or will it only be the 5800's that will need the extra bandwidth atm?

Good question. I think the hit on current Nvidia is minimal. But for the new 58xxx its any ones guess
