hey all,

I'm in the market for a graduated filter but I'm a bit unsure on the details.

I'm aware that the ND filters come in 4 different types. 2x 4x 6x 8x stops.

Does the graduated come in the same formats?? Or are they 'one grade fits all' ?

Has anyone got any experenice with these filters?? If so I'd to hear what you've got to say on the subject.

Cheers in advance.

usually they will come in 2, 4 and 8 which equates to 1, 2 and 4 stops - if i remember rightly

Yeah they come in the usual strengths .3, .6, and .9. Hitech ones are the ones I use and they seem decent enough, better than Cokin but not as good as Lee. You generally get a pack with the various strengths and then you just double them up if you want a stronger effect. You'll obviously need the filter holder too!

They are usually just a thin sheet of glass that goes into the filter holder which attaches to your lens, generally one size fits all for the filter holder but I have a wide angle one to use on my 12-24 lens to stop vignetting.

I have a set of kood grads they are not true ND but are instead described as light grey grads, allthough I can't say I notice the colour cast. I got the filters along with a CPL, holder, and a couple of adapter rings for around £30 and they have made a massive difference to my photography and dramtically reduced the time spent messing around with blending multiple layers for skys and foregrounds in post processing.

This is my point. I have only just started down the photography road and so far I'm loving it, but I have no know-age of photo-shop and don't have the time to learn both.

I'd rather use my camera right and get one decent shot than take loads of rubbish ones and try to fix them in P&P. (not to inpune your work good sir..)

Where did you get your filter from??

I've been look round the bay but only found screw on filters. I have no issue in getting on of these but none of the sellers seems to have any idea what grade their filters are.

Is there any performance difference between the screw on filters and the glass plate ones???

Cheers for the replies guys.
