Hi all I want to start by saying I'm not 100% clued up in networking and have been learning as I went along setting up my home network so please be kind if I (very likely) say something stupid.
I finally have a FTTP provider (grain) coming to my end of the woods. Currently I pay Virgin for 350 download and 35 upload. For the same price I can get 900 symmetrical download and upload. Now even if I get only 50% that I'd be happy for the upload alone.
I currently have a unraid server with plex plus x2 virtual machines, 2 reverse VPN's to my home network (via PFsense) and a Xbox series x that I play games from when I'm out the house. In future I do want to set up a stream remote play as well. However, grain do not give a public IPv4 address and 90% sure they don't give a IPv6 one as well. I'm guessing this will cause issues.
I am tempted to stay with virgin for ease of use but really want the speed boost from gain. Right now I have my virgin hub in modem mode and it connect to a PC running PFsense which goes to my ubiquiti switch and wifi access point (had enough of virgins bad wifi). Would it be possible to rent out a 1Gb VPS (as close to me as possible) which has a fixed public IPv4 address have that redirect to my home network? Had a quick google and think you can set up PFsense on the VPS and link it to my one at home which should give me a public IPv4 address.
My questions are is this possible and If so what hit would I take in speed and latency? Obviously, if there is a much better solution I'm all ears.

Cheers for any help

Sounds like they should start offering IPV6 soon? https://www.grainconnect.com/faqs-general-enquiries/can-i-get-an-ipv6-service/
Might not be worth the hassle if it's on the way, but who knows when it will really come out, maybe something worth chasing up with them yourself.

And yes it's definitely possible. You should be able to just use Reverse SSH tunnels to wherever you decide get this VPS. I would recommend OVH's VPS offering as most other VPS providers have a bandwidth limit.
Using Reverse SSH Tunnels will mean you don't have to route everything through a VPN, just the services you need, so it wouldn't impact anything besides the services you decide to tunnel.

If you do decide to go with OVH, I take it your from the UK, you can test your ping against "lon1-eri.smokeping.ovh.net" which is located in Erith, London.
Run some ping's/traceroute's to ensure the latency is stable to where you decide to host it, and low in comparison to what you get to the internet in general such as 1.1.1.1/google.com/fastly.com (anycast) etc.

Perfect answer thank you, it puts my mind at easy. I've already asked about IPv6 and got the usual response that its should be rolling out soon but cant say when. Hoping it be out before I get connected but want something in place just in case.
