Grainy text and Odd colour?

Two issues:

1. The text at the moment is very grainy and washy. Ive installed the latest monitor drivers on a new samsung 2232bw using a DVI cable. My old monitor had much sharper and set text, whats the problem?

2. Also the whites are very white, blinding, and ive lowered brightness and gama to very low and its hard to differentiate between white and light grey they blend, what is the best monitor calibration software? the one supplied is a bit carp.

Got it set to native resolution? 1680 x 1050.
Also make sure clear type is enabled if your using xp, not sure about vista.
That screen should be crystal clear.

Try vga as well, just to test, could be a dodgy DVI connector or something if vga looks fine.

I find my monitor very blinding as well at defaults. I set the brightness down to about 30 on the monitor itself. And lowered the gamma by about 5-10% on the card drivers.

it was actually cleartype being on that i didnt like, thanks for the info. ive turned it off, so much better now.

ive got the brightness on 30% also, and gamma on 40% but the whites are super white, still.

I cant live without clear type now. I do find I need to set the system text a bit bigger though. It looks much nicer that way.
