I'm still (9 months later) processing pics from a 3 week honeymoon to the West Coast of America last year.

Thought I would post one of the pics I have processed and that I really like, I had it blown up during photobox's recent large print deal and it looks great.

C&C appreciated

Thanks for the comments :)

It is indeed my wife, one of my favourite pics from the trip.

I actually like the fact the sky is blown out (the sun was just setting) I think it gives contrast to the canyon, I also think the flare adds some interest.

Another of my favourites

I think thats better but the addition of your wife seems to make it a touristy type of photo.

It was a touristy photo, we were on honeymoon :)

I have plenty of the Canyon that I'm sure I will bore you with once I've finished processing them, but for now these are my personal favourites, probably for the exact same reasons you dont like them.

hohum

I did indeed have a good time, and dont stop the C&C - I didnt mean to give the impression it wasnt appreciated.

This was a pic minus the missus but I dont reckon its any nicer than the one I posted earlier

It would be interesting to hear whether you think it has more photographic merit?

haha!
So you took the shot of your new wife, then told her to shove off?

I prefer the shot with - it adds a sense of scale to things, and also has a warmer cast.
I would have liked a bit more contrast from that pic but I knew I struggled to keep detail on my wifes face, the warm cast is definitly more to my taste too

I dont think it looks touristy at all. Maybe a bit of fill-in flash would have brought her out against the background though

Yeah a flash is something I desperately need to buy and understand as I have never had anything but dire results with the onboard unit on the 20D

am off there for my honeymoon in sept.... any pointers would be most appreciated!!

Definitly but it depends where you're headed. We did San Francisco to LA, then Vegas and the Grand Canyon, up to Death Valley and Yosemite then back to the wine country around San Fran before heading home. I would be happy to reccomend some spots to visit, send me a mail as I also have some good online links :)

Maybe he shoved her off.
The thought did cross my mind at one point when my camera got dropped :p

i like both the pics, 1st one especially, someone taking in a great view on a lovely day , it makes me want to be sitting there instead of your wife
i like the 2nd too but i think the bush on the right gets in the way a bit, i also think if your wife was looking towards the canyon taking in the view again it would make the photo more interesting
thats my novice take on them
I agree, at the time I was asking her to look towards me but with hindsight it would have drawn the eye more to the scenery

the second shot is my favourite, very warm and the view is amazing. The GC is definately on my list of places to go, not until i get a big fat zoom lens though

If the camera had a UV filter on, would i be right saying that it would remove the haze in the background? Just a personal question really because im not entirely sure what UV filters do
I bought a Sigma 100-300 f4 for the trip but didnt use it more than a couple of times in the Grand Canyon, the 17-40L was glued to the camera (wish I had taken my tripod though!). Also I did have a UV filter on the lens for all my pics, I guess the scale of the canyon and the low sun has added to the haze - possibly a polariser may have helped (dont recall if it was on the lens for these shots)

Great shot, i love the sun glare in it, great use of it.
Thanks, I like glare/flare in pics as it can give help set the scene, it's just a shame its not always within your control ie sometimes it's accidental
