haha!
So you took the shot of your new wife, then told her to shove off?
I prefer the shot with - it adds a sense of scale to things, and also has a warmer cast.
I would have liked a bit more contrast from that pic but I knew I struggled to keep detail on my wifes face, the warm cast is definitly more to my taste too

I dont think it looks touristy at all. Maybe a bit of fill-in flash would have brought her out against the background though
Yeah a flash is something I desperately need to buy and understand as I have never had anything but dire results with the onboard unit on the 20D

am off there for my honeymoon in sept.... any pointers would be most appreciated!!
Definitly but it depends where you're headed. We did San Francisco to LA, then Vegas and the Grand Canyon, up to Death Valley and Yosemite then back to the wine country around San Fran before heading home. I would be happy to reccomend some spots to visit, send me a mail as I also have some good online links

i like both the pics, 1st one especially, someone taking in a great view on a lovely day , it makes me want to be sitting there instead of your wife
i like the 2nd too but i think the bush on the right gets in the way a bit, i also think if your wife was looking towards the canyon taking in the view again it would make the photo more interesting
thats my novice take on them
I agree, at the time I was asking her to look towards me but with hindsight it would have drawn the eye more to the scenery

the second shot is my favourite, very warm and the view is amazing. The GC is definately on my list of places to go, not until i get a big fat zoom lens though
If the camera had a UV filter on, would i be right saying that it would remove the haze in the background? Just a personal question really because im not entirely sure what UV filters do
I bought a Sigma 100-300 f4 for the trip but didnt use it more than a couple of times in the Grand Canyon, the 17-40L was glued to the camera (wish I had taken my tripod though!). Also I did have a UV filter on the lens for all my pics, I guess the scale of the canyon and the low sun has added to the haze - possibly a polariser may have helped (dont recall if it was on the lens for these shots)

Great shot, i love the sun glare in it, great use of it.
Thanks, I like glare/flare in pics as it can give help set the scene, it's just a shame its not always within your control ie sometimes it's accidental
