Excellent </Mr Burns>
Dunno how much you've read about iRacing but thought I'd give some simple info, the new season starts at midnight tonight (well, midnight GMT, so 1am for us), although I think all sessions for tonight are about to stop/have stopped for promotions.
As a new driver you'll be given a Rookie level Road and Oval licence, you'll have a Safety Rating of 2.50, and an iRating and ttRating of 1600 (an arbritary 'mid-pack' level, it's almost definately wrong, either too high or too low). This gives you the ability to race the Rookie Solstice on the road side, and the Rookie Legends on the oval side, both have fixed setups and are fairly slow. Personally I quite liked them both, they give good racing and the solstice especially teaches you weight transfer to be really quick.
But you'll want to race quicker cars, obviously

, you're also given the Spec Racer Ford (damn good fun road car) and the 'Advanced' Legends (non-rev limited, evil thing but fun at the same time). In order to drive these you need to get your Safety Rating (SR) above 3.00.
After that you need to buy stuff, on the road side you've got the Skip Barber and soon-to-be-released VW Jetta TDi as the D-Class cars, and on the oval side we've got the Late Model and SK Modifieds. In order to get to race these, you either need to be D-Class, or have your SR above 4.00 (this follows throughout the game, to 'race-up' in a higher class car). To advance licences you need to get your SR above 3.00 and also complete the 'Minimum Participation Requirements', this is basically 2 races OR 4 TT's as a rookie, rising to the dizzy heights of a whole 4 races OR 4 TT's above that, hardly a challenge.
Promotions come every 4 weeks for Rookie's, and at the end of every season (13 weeks) for everybody else (after a year I'm finally becoming A-Class tonight, go me \o/).
Forum, there is an iRacing forum, the software isn't the greatest but there are helpful people there (as well as a lot of annoying ones) and you'll be in either a Club (assuming England?) which will have it's own sub forums, say hi in there and hopefully you'll get some nice people saying hi back
Sporting Code, long and not the most interesting, but this defines all the rating systems, how you're expected to drive (blue flag rules, restarts, 'towing' and everything else you can think of), a very good idea to read this
And most of all have fun
