Grand Theft Auto V

I think some people here are being harsh on GTA4, but then it's typical on OcUK that a popular game is deemed overrated and ****, whereas the games with low scores are deemed to be great, and misunderstood or underrated. It's a joke on here at times, there will always be people that don't share the opinion of the majority, it's not wrong, everyone is free to feel what they want to but it seems that OcUK in particular has an abnormally high ratio of haters, it's as if the majority of people here are stuck in the 10 year old mindset of hate anything that's mainstream.

Yup, we'd all still be playing 8bit games with annoying midi music soundtracks if they had their way.

OR, maybe IV really is lacking in areas that the previous games excelled in. It has nothin to do with being 'mainstream'. All the games were mainstream:rolleyes:

You've totally missed the point of my post, I'm not talking specifically about GTA4, but the message board on the whole. No need for the condescending rolleyes either.

Agreed. Well said.

Ignore the hate if you enjoy a game :)

I find it refreshing that people here are willing to put the boot into a game where it's deserved. There have been some 360, PS3, and multi format shockers this generation. And while most review sources seem to pile on the OMG 9.7/10 scores, you can at least expect a little more balance in opinion here :)

The gaming boards here are more 'Edge' than official 'Xbox' or 'Playstation'

Of course, having your favourite game berated can be an annoyance to some. Join the debate or ignore it :)

Get the PC version right this time R*, and I wouldn't mind a return to Vice City.

I still need to get around to completing IV since I only reached the middle island.:(

Got 100% on GTA 3 though, how sad.;)

This thread is about GTA V and mentioned in this thread were critisisms of IV vs the earlier games. the rolleyes were perfectly justified because as i said, what people are saying has nothing at all to do with GTA IV being a mainstream game so your comment was unwarranted.

as for the message board as a whole, no i cant agree with that at all. Have you got any good examples of criticism of a game just because its a popular game? any at all? I think some of you guys imagine this board-wide hatred of popular games. I see a fair few people complaining about people criticising popular games. not seeing what i would call an unjust hatred towards them though.

I really can't be arsed to look for individual examples, the fact that two other people already agreed with me shows I'm not alone in thinking that and at least I added something to the thread, instead of simply coming here to have an argument with somebody.

I didnt come here for an argument, i gave you a different viewpoint to consider, or is that not allowed either?

You inferred the criticism of IV was because it was a mainstream game. Wrong, read the posts again. some people just plain didnt like the game. Is that not allowed? does everybody have to love a game because everybody else does? how daft does that sound? some people are comparing it to older GT's and preferring those and it normally boils down to a few things. Car handling? better in VC/SA. Content? more in San Andreas. Fun? with the exception of BOTG, both VC and SA were bags more fun.

That doesnt mean i didnt like GTA IV, i bought it and both the expansions after all. but i bought the others as well and ive played through them all a few times. Now, are you going to put this post down to GTA IV being a 'mainstream game' as well?

Well your first line where you've said sarcastically is your opinion not allowed is what you insinuated when you said to me we are talking about GTA4 and that my post was unwarranted, I didn't realise that we were only allowed to talk about the topic at hand, this thread isn't even on topic anyway so I didn't really see where you were going with that.

I think if you look closer at all the games you are missing a few things. San Andreas had a lot of content but so does GTA4, what is missing from GTA4? Haircuts, car mods and the whole gym thing I guess, as well as a few other things but 4 has also added stuff, it's not as if they took everything away and that was it.

You REALLY need to get off your high horse and stop wording out your posts as if you are attacking the individual instead of the argument.

it wasnt sarcastic, it was a serious question. you dont like people criticising mainstream games and you dont like people disagreeing with you.

also the territory stuff isnt in IV is it? they put it in TLAD but it was a cut down version of it as i recall. that was one of the deeper features that i was sad to see dropped from IV, but im not sure how it would have fit in with IV's story. I cant say i was bothered about the hair cuts but being able to customise your character was fun.

You REALLY need to get off your high horse and stop wording out your posts as if you are attacking the individual instead of the argument.

So im on a high horse because i dont agree with you now? ok waste of time carrying on this conversion. you stick to defending mainstream games and ill stick to judging them fairly. deal?

I loved GTA SA and GTA VC, GTA IV was quite dull story wise but still enjoyable, TLAD was a small improvement but TBOGT was great, finally some humor, memorable characters/missions, and well, silly things like a gold rolls droptop or a gold chopper owned by a funny but mad muslim :p. Some cutscenes in the ballad of gay tony were hilarious and characters are memorable, also the chick who you **** or get a bj from during the club management missions.

I'd like a modern GTA SA tbh, same mix of silly&gang&generic missions, LOTS to do and explore outside of missions, and also some rural area's. they were great to drive about in.

I thought Bully had a nice atmosphere to it too, better than GTA IV anyhow, but GTA SA was best though: I enjoy silly missions like when burning the weed for the hippy, nicking a jetpack from a military base, do missions for that crazy cousin of ceasar, do a bit of trucking when feeling like it, tune up my cars, etc.

It's 12am and I cant be bothered traipsing through the forums to look for things which are blatantly obvious to anyone who spends more than 5 minutes a day on here. Just look in the GT5 thread for evidence of people hating something purely because it's a popular game/franchise.

I don't care who agrees or disagrees with me but when your first post is a rolleyes what do you expect? And now you're acting in the exact high horse manner that I just mentioned. I'll tell you what a waste of time is, someone who doesn't even bother to read posts properly. Where did I say I don't like people criticising mainstream games? I didn't, I said that on OcUK it seems to be the "in" thing to do, to criticise a game which is hugely popular/liked by the vast majority of players and critics alike. If you read some of the posts regarding games like MGS4 you'd think it was possibly the worst game ever created, some of the posters here just spout sensationalist bull**** just because it's the cool thing to do, to go against the grain.

When I say mainstream games I'm talking about games that are predominantly high scoring among critics and users, as GTA4 is, and reading some of the posts in this thread you'd assume it was absolutely terrible which simply isn't the case in the opinion of a vast majority of people. What I'm saying is that OcUK seems to have many of the people that seem to think classically good games are steaming piles of turd.

Where did I say you were on a high horse because you didn't agree with me? I didn't, so stop putting words in my mouth and take more than 30 seconds skim reading a post before you bother to reply.

If it's not a crime sim, then what is it? The object is to engage in the criminal underworld. It's a game about crime.

For my part, it would be more enjoyable if it were even faintly plausible. As it is people will pick a fight if you bump into them but the cops will ignore any amount of absurd driving until you hit a pedestrian or one of their cars.

Maybe it's just me, but I found it too unrealistic to be fun.

LOL

i bet you thought need for speed hot pursuit and burnout where racing simulators to lol??? or did you think it was more of a flight sim! hahahah

Although Vice City and San Andreas were brilliant, people seem to forget GTA3 was a bit crap.

And I'm hoping we'll see the same thing happen here, now the engine etc has been taken care of with GTA IV, all the development time is freed up for storyline and gameplay, this is why the GTA IV DLC was more fun than the main game.

I'm optimistic that this generation's VC/SA are to come, and I can't see them making another engine overhaul for GTA on this generation of consoles, so they'll just be concentrating on gameplay/story line, like with VC/SA after GTA3.
