Hi im hoping someone can help when i switch on my computer a lot of the time after the vista logo has come on and the start music the moniter switchs itsself off ive also noticed that the led on the back of the graphics card goes from green to red signaling i imagine a switch off of the card the post screen on the motherboard display is FF which from what i gather means its still on and running ok.This fault also somtimes happens when i open internet explorer after it starts(when it does) the same happens screen shuts down and led at back of card goes red.Ive disabled things like nvidia helper etc.And it seams to load in safe mode every time with no crash.Because the graphics card is turning itself off is it a fair bet to say its faulty or could it be somthing else.I cant seem to find anything of help in event logger or fault reporting in vista any help would be great thanks my specs are
cpu Q6600 quad core
abit ip35 pro
oc 2600 mem 2GB
corsair 750 w psu
2x samsung spinpoints 500GB each
leadtech gtx 280
asus sonair
im running vista 32bit wilth all updates.
this system was an overclock bundle from OC but it wont hold the overclock as it keeps reverting back to standard after this fault.I havent tried to overclock it again for months but fault is still there. Also when its running i can play any game farcry 2 for instance with everything on full for hours with no problems.

A red light on a GTX280 means its not getting enough power.

Do you have the 8 and 6 pin lead plugged in?

I have a Corsair 750w and it powered my 280 perfectly fine

Thanks for the info, ill check it tonight there is one other thing i just remembered when i had the system built by a local PC shop they managed to fit the PSU upside down in the bottom of the case so cooling fan was downwards against the case floor,i never ran the machine like this i took it straight back and made them swap it around, obviously they will have run it whilst installing OS do you think PSU may have been damaged overheated etc.

ive taken my graphics card out and disconnected the two power cables it looked as though it was installed correctly ive refit it and tried it,it shutdown again ie graphics card turns off moniter goes black at vista start screen so i re opened the case and swapped the two power supplies to the card around ive just rebooted and it obviously its working at the minute as im doing this post.cant imagine its fixed yet though.any thoughts on power supply problem maybe see previos post thanks.
