Graphic Card for £150?

Hey I want a good graphic card to put into my system. It would be used for games so its fairly important for it to be pretty powerful.

I have £150 to spend and I have been looking here at the graphic cards but there are far to many. I would prefur a ATI card but I could go Nvidia, but only if the price-performence is a rather large increase.

I have been looking at the HD 6870, which seems to be a pretty powerful card. But to be honest, I'm not really sure what I'm looking at.

Compared to my old card, HD 5770, it does have a pretty large increase in FPS. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/538?vs=540

What card would you recommend for about £150 to play games with? (such as Crisis 2, BF3). I'm not expecting a smooth 60, but the better the FPS the more happy I would be :)

First thing first...what's the spec for the rest of your system?

Cause it always make me facepalm to see people pairing a modern card with a old Core2Duo or Athlon X2, making their graphic card not even getting 50% utilisation due to CPU bottleneck.

Thanks for that link. It's worth considering but I don't think I would be able to buy today :(

My specs are:

i5 2500K
8GB 1600MHz RAM
60GB SSD
1TB HDD

Can't remember mother board off the top of my head but it was a little over £110 :S

I play at 1680x1050.

Anyhow I've been looking at the 7850. It does seem pretty nice but I was looking at the ports at the back. Could I ever run dual mointer should I wish to? (sorry forgot to mention this in OP)

I might not even do it - but it would be nice to have the option.

Also, I noticed it had the HIS cooler. Are they any good? I never even heard of the name :O (only ever used Sapphire cooled cards)

Thanks in advance :D

Find another £30 mate even if you have to wait, these custom cooled 7850's are the dogs. OC very well, great performance, 2GB of VRAM so well future-proofed, low-powered, cool and quiet.

The best bang for buck card out there.

You won't beat that card, even though it'll be overkill at your resolution the next step downward willl only save you £10-20 at most which makes it a no-brainer.

I have the same specs as you except I have a 3570k and the 7850 runs everything I throw at in on full with AA at 1920x1080 at 55-60fps.
