Graphic card gone bust?

Hey, I recently purchased a GTS450. Whenever I try to connect it to my Monitor using a VGA cable, nothing shows up, the screen is just black. I use my TV as a second monitor connected by a HDMI cable and this seems to be working fine, but not the monitor. It is not my VGA cable or the monitor as i have tested my old GeForce 9500GT with them and it's all working without an issue.

I know that something is happening because nothing like 'Video cable not detected' comes up, and when the computer is switched on the screen goes a bit brighter black if you know what i mean, and the other way round when its switched off, the screen goes even darker like it normally would when it was switched off.

Any ideas on what's wrong?

Possibly an unsupported resolution, or refresh rate. That can happen. The monitors usually whinge when you try to put a signal they cannot handle.

Or as you say, the card has something gone bust.

Thanks for replies, normally when I set the resolution on too high, I get a message 'Signal out of range', buts its on native atm with 60Hz refresh, It worked fine couple days ago on those settings.

Unfortunately I do not have a DVI adapter. Would you suggest getting one to test it out?

Can you plug it into your TV and monitor, use your TV to setup dual monitor, then muck around with the monitor settings and see if you can get it to display anything

You said your monitor connected via VGA. Your GPU has a DVI output. So I assumed you had an adapter to plug it in.

Does the monitor actually have a DVI connector then?

So you currently plug in your monitor by an adapter like this?

If so, see if you can try with a different adapter. I have had these break on me before.
