Graphic card needed

Hi,
Not much of a computer expert i have very little knowledge! I was wondering what is the best value card that offers the best performance for money, so that i will be able to play the new top games on high setting (excluding Crysis), and that is future proof for a few years?

8800 GT (new ones)?
8800 GTS 512mb (G92)?
8000 GTX?
Radeon 3970 xt?
