Hi guys. My nephews pc has started playing up as you can see from the pics.

Is this a sign that the graphics card is on the way out? It does this when you start the pc, sometimes a couple of restarts fixes it. It's an old 9800pro thats currently in it. If it is the graphics card, can anyone suggest a cheap replacement.

Thanks for any replies!

Maybe try taking it out and giving it a good dust/clean and see if that helps...

Other than that you'll need to let us know some more info :-)

Hi mike. First thing i thought of was to clean it and reseat it, to no avail. What info do you need? He hasn't done anything to it recently(that he's admitting to), that would change anything!
cheers

Check the VGA leads?
Does it happen on another monitor?
Is the refresh rate set higher than the monitor can handle?
Other than that I'd suggest failed RAM on the 9800.

Might be worth using Driversweeper or similar to remove/replace drivers - it's an old card so maybe make a note of the current version you have been happy with.

Info request was in respect of system spec's to determine what gfx card would be worthwhile - probably something second hand...

Check the VGA leads? Do you mean to see if their connected properly, or that their knackered?
Does it happen on another monitor? Will try this tomorrow
Is the refresh rate set higher than the monitor can handle? Don't think so, but i'll check tomorrow

Thanks!

I did think of the drivers, but why would it start this all of a sudden? Will try driversweeper tomorrow.

Damn knew i forgot something in the original post:rolleyes:
Specs are
Athlon 2800
1 gig of ram (cant remember the speed)
Quasar motherboard.
Old system obviously, but it's only used for warcraft and tinternet

Thanks again guys!

P.S. I'm sure i've still got the old 9200se(no laughing), that came with it. I'll try that tomorrow also!

I had a 9200SE that started showing loads of artifacts one day, we binned it.

Hi guy's, just to update. Tried the 9200 in it, success! He only plays WOW and football manager, so he should be ok for now.
His mother is SOOO happy, as he is now no longer "doing my nut in!"

Thanks again for the suggestions!
Craig
