Graphic Card Recommendation

Hey,

I'm considering a new graphics card. My current system spec is below:
I currently play a lot of BF2142. I would ideally like to be able to play it
in Hi-Resolution with a smooth framerate, to make the most of my monitor. Ideally with all the games bells and whistles on. I will be upgrading my whole system next year at some point so will have to consider Vista then for DX10. Could anyone recommend a graphics card? The OcUK ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT SILENT Heatpipe 1024MB GDDR4 looks pretty sweet. Would this be ok with my current rig? or is there another card I should be looking at?

cheers

the 1GB 2900XT is a waste its no better than the 512 maybe at best 5 or 6 frames.

Keep the X1950 and get the 9800 nvidia in november.

As said keep what you got and save the money for next gen cards. And also as said the 512 model would be a better bet if you cant wait.I have as you can see the 2900xt 512 model and its a nice card with a few driver updates.Does run hot but so have most of my ati cards and the fan can be loud.Something to bear in mind.

I'd save up for what's coming in November. Nvidia never cease to amaze with a new line of cards, I'm looking forward to see how it all fans out.

Is the X1950XTX not doing the job? I didn't think BF2142 was THAT intensive, it is an ageing engine.

It runs it fine with medium to high settings, with no AA in 1366 x 768. This is on the titan, which I mainly play. I can't use any other resolution or settings as it is just too jerky. On conquest I can push it up to 1600x200 on the same settings. I think the game is very poorly coded. Unless in it's native resolution on the 24" dell is a little blurry. I play other games in 1920x1200 and it is so sharp and stunning. So you really notice when it is play in lower resolutions.

Yeah I guess it makes sense to go for the 512mb as I wouldn't be using crossfire on this board/system. This boards 2nd PCIE slot can only run 4x.
The x1950xt ran hot on the stockfan, it was noisy and useless. I had to use ATI tools to get the fan to actually start cooling it, then it sounded like a hairdryer. I now use w/c for the GPU and it's RAM. The w/c dropped the temp dramatically, it was idling with the fan at 65 oC and underload was 80-90 oC. The w/c has dropped it to 35-40 oC idle and under load it never goes above 50 oC.

I guess I will wait for the next gen cards then or maybe get an 8800 GTX cheaper? As I have said I will be going for a complete rebuild in about 6 months time maybe a little sooner. So would like a powerful card to run the DX9 games because I wont be going vista until my upgrade. I guess holding o is the answer. Just having a nice monitor I 'am busting to run games at 1920x1200......with all the candy on.

thanks for the feedback guys. Guess more time to hoard some coin.
