I've been searching the net for a while now and I think its time to hand it over to you guys.

I really would like a chart showing power consumptions of different cards but can't seem to find one anywhere, so that I can work out which power supplies are going to work with which cards when my friends want me to help upgrading their PC's. As a PSU is a pretty big cost to add on if you were to but an 8800GTX for example.

So do any of you know of a chart hidden anywhere??

Cheers,

HK :)

your comp should easily handle a single gtx aswell as a guide, 2 in sli would probo warrant a 700w. 800w would defo do it.

i've run a e6600 @ 3.6Ghz with 2gig mem, 6 hdd's, and a gts 640mb on a 500W and plenty of people are running a similar setup with 400-450w's. i wouldn't go significantly lower than those ratings for a x1900/x1800 card either unless its a cut pipe/low mem version and even then its simply not worth it, 500-600W psu's are all fairly good value, 400-500w isn't much of a saving and 600-800w's are mostly a big jump in price and only needed for powerful sli rigs. 800w+ is for e-penis. possibly a quad sli setup might warrant it. but there aren't any games that need quad sli so that would be for el e-penor too.

Yeah 7900's are great, I went from a 6800GT, to a 7900GTX, and found that the computer used less power after the upgrade (measureable with a cheap plugin power monitor!)

Hopefully G90, and/or G100 will bring Nvidia back to a 'sensible' power figure.

Around the 75W level would be more than acceptable for a DX10 high performance card :P, but wouldnt complain if they got it down to 7900 power levels :)
