I need a graphic designer for an advert I want to place in a couple of transport related publications.

Before I actually find a Designer I need to make sure I don't get ripped off, so, how much should I look to pay someone to do an advert in colour sized 1/8th of an A4 page (and possibly a carbon copy blown to 1/4 of an A4 page)?

Ta!

£30 - £50 an hour for a Freelancer. Assuming hi-res pics, logos and copy supplied you should be looking at somewhere in region of £100 - £150 for a press-quality pdf. Design Agency x3 that figure if your lucky.

Speaking as a designer, its more to do with the alterations and what you want doing as a design, whether you want the person to take it through to print or just supply the image. Cost would also go up if you wanted an editable copy.

Something as simple as a photo with text over the top will cost less than a design with stylised/illustrative effects added (ie pop art/apple style etc) - its all to do with the time taken.

But as a rough guide the 100-150 (probably need vat on that) would be a good guide for a general ad, minimal alterations and no editable copy.
