Hey all, my brother has been having problems with his PC, mainly when playing games such as World Of Warcraft and Counter Strike Source. It looks like a normal graphics problem so I uninstalled the drivers and put new ones on but this hasn't made a difference.

Also there are what looks like dead pixels when windows starts up and on the desktop, they are mostly noticeable when there is a black background, and there is about 20-30 red/green pixels, however I was able to screenshot these and they were part of the image:confused:

It eventually crashed and on the desktop there was an nv4_display error, which seems to crop up a lot around the Internet but no one answer for it. Anybody got a clue what this could be?

Thanks

The bits of grsphic flying out like in the screenshot is called Artifacting (I believe). I had it on an old GFX Card while playing Source games, it was my graphics card over-heating as well and ended up having to just buy a new one. Although Im not an expert, Im sure someone else can help out!

I thought it may be overheating but the temperatures do not go over 50 even in game, and they're around 40 on desktop, and the "dead pixel" looking things are still there. Don't have another PCI-E card spare but might try to borrow one off somebody.

Take the card out and have a look to see if the gpu heatsink is seated properly.
But it is more likely to be the video ram that is starting to die

Do you think it's worth re-applying thermal paste? Wouldn't the temperatures be way up if this was the case?

Its a long shot only if there looks to be some movement on the heatsink, it is more likely to be the Vram, so RMA it if you can.

Is there anyway to test the Vram? To see if it is working as normal, or is it just a componant that breaks after a while? The card will not be in warrenty now.

I tired that software but it just found loads of errors and it didn't make sense. I reformatted the PC to see if it was software and it's still happening (the PC needed a format anyway). Below is a picture of what happens when I fill the screen black in paint. You can see the "dead pixel" looking things on it.

Is this a case of buying a new card?
