Graphical errors?

Hi Guys

I bought my 5870 in March and its been a great card so far. Recently for about a month my card has shown some weird graphic errors on windows 7 desktop. If I reboot it will dissapear and wont resurface but they could appear if I reboot at any point.

I will get screen shots when I next see it but its things like the wallpapers appear fragmented and task bar writing is all scrambled.

I have updated drives from 10.2, 10.4 and 10.6. I think its either Software or Power issue as I have never seen It in games or when the GPU is under heavy load.

What do you think?

This is the PSU a PC Power & Cooling 1000 watt http://www.pcpower.com/power-supply/turbo-cool-1kw-sr.html. Mine was an ex demo unit I got for free from my ex employer about 2.5 years ago.

i had this on my 3870x2 loads of artifacts on the screen, eventually covered the whole screen and were in the bios and everything, I put it in the oven the other night and now it works!! lol although I dont think you should do that with the 5870 :P if its a fault with the card Rma it, if its doing it all the time then it cant really be drivers.

Beware though that if it is an intermitent fault, and u rma it, the rma testing may not show it up.

My 5770 last week suddenly started doing this from bios to windows, and would stay there for a good bit, only then it would go away once the card had warmed up.

I was advised by OCuk to rma it, as they said its not the drivers if its doing it in bios, and low and behold it passed the rma testing with no faults *sigh* so £30 wasted for nothing, and no doubt the card will still have the fault when it gets back to me, so more testing for me to do.

So just bare in mind, if its an intermitent fault, it may not show up if u have to rma it.

Thats my issue. Its an intermittened fault and DOESNT show in the bios yet. A restart will fix the issue. Making me think its software or a PSU problem. Im not quite at the RMA stage yet but I am thinking of buying a new 1000watt with modular connections just to rule out possible PSU issues.

The card under load when no artifacting is present work fine for hours and hours.

Yeh its a proper annoying problem, like you mine will game no problems at all, only now and again from cold will it do the problem, and once upto heat its fine.

Kinda thought the rma would spot it, as well deffinatly would have been cold when they booted it up lol, but ahwell.

Im gonna do more testing when i get it back tomorrow, try diff monitor (well lcd tv) try dif connection (hdmi instead of Dvi), sadly i can't test with another psu, as don't have a spare, but my systems rock solid, or was untill the gfx issue.

Wish u all the luck with yours mate, if i can figure out why mines doing it, i'll deffinatly let u know.

Ive seen it when the system is warm. Such as a update reboot. Ive tried it through the HDMI and multiple monitors. The issue is incredibly random hence why im not near RMA stage yet.

Im thinking its either my ageing 680i or my PSU.

Yeh thats why im like great, rma failed, and i know its gonna reapear, but when.

My mobo is brand spanking new (2/3 weeks old), aswell as all the other parts all bought same time as mobo, apart from SSD and PSU but they are only 3 months old themselves.

Don't think mine happened after an update, if i remember rightly, i left the comp for 5 mins to make a coffee, came back upstairs saw the desktop like the pic in my thread, thought now thats weird, so rebooted, and it was there in bios boot, and in desktop, first thing i did was called OCuk tech guys, and they said rma it, its a memory issue, but yeh that was a big fat waste of time lol.

10 mins after hanging up with them it was gone, and never reapeared that day, but i still went ahead with the rma though, probably should'nt have really, but hey ho.

i'm having this happen to me also, i've already swapped my first 5870 because of glitches like this even when gaming.

I can't rma it well not gonna again shall we say, i can't swap it as OC say that i can't even tried within the distance selling timeframe and was a no go.

Im probably just gonna sell mine on the bay and forget about gaming and just get a passive gfx for HD only, as i mainly F@H anyways don't game to often.
