Graphical problems in win7

I've been playing a lot of older games under windows 7 lately and found a lot of problems doing so. Getting the games to run is the easy part, but the graphics screw up and all the colours go wrong:

Sometimes when loading the games work fine, and it only does this in full screen mode. Using dosbox, the old games do it too.
Anyone have any ideas how I can solve it?
And yes, I do have the latest graphics drivers

Ok I fixed Diablo 2 by running the vid test that came with it. But I still have the problem on other old games

ATI Radeon HD 4890 1gb

I didnt include this because I doubted it would be significant. The same problem happens on my other pc under windows 7 using an nvidia card

ah right i see...

tis a bit of an odd one, personally i dont think some vendors have perfected a lot of W7 drivers yet. for example i had a ATI 3650 which pixelated blu-ray playback under W7, but replaced it with a ATI 4550 which works fine..

Weird. I was checking the vidtest on diablo 2 to see what it changed. It appeared to change the video mode between direct3d and something else. I dont spose theres a way to force video modes in old games. Maybe dosbox has an option!
