Hi,

I have a Seasonic G 650W PSU which is semi-modular. One of the permanently attached cables is a 6+2pin PCI-E connector with an additional 6+2pin PCI-E connector on the end of the same cable - similar to SATA power connectors used to power multiple HDDs with a single cable.

My graphics card, a Sapphire 7870 XT, requires 2 6pin PCI-E power connectors. My question is, would it be alright to power this card with the single power cable with 2 connectors?

The PSU did come with a modular 6pin PCI-E cable so I could easily use this, but obviously it would mean less cable clutter if I didn't have to.

I don't see why it wouldn't work but i'd play it safe and use the other modular cable..

They may have put two on the same cable as an extension method..

You can always try it, it won't harm you GPU, just MAY hinder performance.

The PSU has 4 PCI-E cables so you be fine.

Do you have two separate modular cables or just one with dual connections on.

The PSU comes with 4 PCI-E connectors on 2 cables - 2 connectors on each cable. One of which is modular, the other is permanently attached. I'd just like to know if I can power the graphics card with the single permanently attached cable with 2 connectors.

You be fine with the one cable powering the GPU, the second cable can used for another card if you fancy in the future :D

my seasonic x850 has the same connection, it goes into a single plug on the psu but has 2 separate cables coming off it into 2 6+2pin connections. i use that to power my overclocked 7970 without any issues so you will be fine
