Over the past month my graphics card keeps doing this.

Followed by freezing or restarting my PC.

The temperature hovers around the 50c mark. I had this problem a few months ago but solved it by cleaning all the dust off the card. Which doesn't seem to help anymore.

Any ideas as to what is wrong with it?

That sounds just like what recently happened on the 6800ultra in my son's pc - started artefacting and rebooting randomly, then aboiut a week later it went totally fubar! They now have a nice new x1950GT in their pc :D

I would say it is time to start saving for a new card

It's an XFX 7800GT so I'm hoping it's got a lifetime warranty. It's fine when web browsing but it also sometimes shuts down when watching video.

Yeah, there's seemed to be fine just browsing the net for a few days (after it started crashing in 3d apps), but then it completely fooked, and even the post screen was garbled.

i had exact same problem a few months ago.

is the fan spinning on the card?

i quickly replaced mine with an arctic cooler tightened tightly and i have not had any problems since.

I've contacted the online store where I brought it from to see if I can get it replaced but I doubt they will.

Last time I had to take them to court.

What monitor was it and what exactly was the problem?

DGM 19inch on DVI it use to break up and look like the pic posted If switching off then on sorted but come back again at some point swop it with my screen inbedroom and it started doing same thing. but the screen that I used to swop with was fine on that PC.

Bin the TFT got new one and never seen the problem again

Prob is the card but for the sake of lot hassle not hert to try

The problem has gone away now. I've run 3D Mark 06 a couple of times and all was fine.

Thanks for the help.

The problem is back but now it also happens after I shutdown a game and my Dell 2407 keeps flickering on and off.

u should have reported this to us the moment it started to happen. you may still be able to save that card it you turn off the pc u have it in and order a better cooler for it and in the mean time see if the stock cooler is clogged up with dust etc. can;t believe how silly some people are that continue to use thier hardware knowing that its gonna knacker out if they use it.
loads of people i know have cooked thier hardware just cuz they carried on using it when it was overheating.

The cooler is clean and is not over heating.

I haven't had any problems since yesterday morning. Even after an eight hour gaming session.

Would changing the cooler void any warranty on the card?

check your power supply is giving your graphics card enough power, a high end graphics card with something like a 300w psu will underperform by loads and drag your system down.
