Hi,

Just returned from holiday - before I left I decided to buy two graphics cards, (probably 4890).

But I was concerned about them getting delayed and turning up whilst I was on holiday so decided to leave it to my return.

I was expecting prices to be the same, maybe lower. But in general I've found prices have increased around £20.

Anyone know what is happening - is this price increase a trend or just a temprory blip.

Heard stories of new cards around the corner - should I hang on for a little while?

My rig and monitor only really justify a 4870 (512GB) but I've decided that I'd rather spend a little more and get a 4870 (1GB) or a 4890.

Incidentally, given a choice, what would you buy

a 4870 1GB with better cooling or 4890 with reference cooling?

Cheers,

Nigel

I'd hold out a bit longer and wait for the 5xxx series which are coming early September althou realistically I dont think you'd get your hands on 1 untill probably October.
this can be had for £127 but is out of stock.
There are a few other etailers who have this in stock and at around the same price.

Thanks, yeah I saw that one.

Not entirely sure about it - there is criticism of its cooling and the current PowerColor version has a re-designed cooler, so I guess this is older stock.

Think there were better cards commonly (at at least 3 retaillers I checked) at £130 before I went on holiday but they are now around £145 or £150.

Same story in all the retailers I commonly check - OcUK is still the cheapest that I can find at the moment.

The new cards will be out of my price league - just wondering whether the 4890 prices will fall when they come out.

Cheers,

Nigel

I would honestly suggest that you just wait until October. Either you can get a 5XXX or the 4800s you want will be quite a bit cheaper.

Either way it's win win.
