I am going to get a new system with a Dell 2407 24" monitor but I dont want to get a top graphics card just yet. I want to wait for Vista and Dx10 cards.

Other parts of the system will be fairly top, Core2Duo clocked up, 2Gb, 300Gb etc.

Whats the cheapest thing that will give me good windows performance but not games and run at 1920x1200?

Cheers

If you're looking purely for a cheap stop-gap then the 7600 GT is only £88 at the moment and is pretty much the best thing you will get unless you go up to the £150 mark where the X1900 GT and X1800 XT cards are.

A 7600GT should play games in that resolution perfectly fine, just don't expect AA/AF and high settings.

Yeah and if you get the x1800 XT/x1900 XT etc... then you can miss out the first DX10 cards and get a better, faster, newer one further down the line when theres more than an OS and Crysis using DX10, or if you want a DX10 card then go for the 7600 GT as said to tide you over, G80 is rumoured to be October. :)

Yep. :D It's too early to even be considering DirectX 10, if you have the money just buy one of the good ones now.
