I currently own the set-up that's in my sig, its well over a year old now (18 months i think)!

I'm just wanting other peoples opinions on possible upgrade paths...

Buy a second hand 8800 GTS 640mb for SLI
Buy a new card at around the price £300 bracket
Or buy two £150 cars for SLI

The trouble is, there is so many options and routes to take now.

Opinions are appreciated!

Cheers
Trox

I'd say stick with what you have until a more improved option is available...

Yea this is an option, but i really want decent frame rates in AoC, crysis etc at 1680x1050 rez. The 8800 GTS 640 does me well, but on high settings in both games the frame rates can fall.

Wait for the 9800GTX to fall to £130 on 17th July and buy one or two of them

Or spend a little more and buy the 9800GTX+

Both cards around the 4850 performance mark but you have a SLI board and I guess swapping to a xfire board is a no no.

The thing with the new cards... GTX 260 doesnt seem to be all the impressed compared to other options for that money (SLI)

Correct me if im wrong please

Yeah but SLI is far from perfect, I'd prefer to have a single card than SLI.

9800gtx will fall to £130? sounds insane hehe

Cheers for the info!

Yea true, this is how i kinda feel towards sli.

True, not perfect and doesn;t work in all games but if in a months time you can have two 9800GTX in SLI for £260 which when SLI is working will wipe the floor against a GTX280 or buy a GTX280 for £400+ to have the ideal single solution, I know which I would buy unless money was no object.

That sounds the route i might take, £130 seems a bargain and should be a good boost over my current aging 8800 gts 640mb card.

Cheers for the link Greebo

Your welcome. Btw, which two cars were you thinking of buying for SLI just out of interest? :p

I've no idea, i was just bouncing ideas around lol

I wasn't sure how fast the newer 8800 GTS's are compared to mine, so maybe 2 of those if anything.

I'm sure ill be able to hang off for the price drops now though :)

lol. You posted "cars" and not "cards" in your original post

I can just see the answers: "two fiestas scale really well in SLI at the budget end but if you can afford it two Jaguars are better" :p

9800GTX+ i would say is the best option, with the possibility of SLI in future (although I still think single card solution > SLI)

Will my motherboard be able to take the new cards? I dont think the 680i is pci e 2.0 after all
