Evening all,

Im looking at upgrading my graphics card since i have bought a new monitor and im looking to get some advise on which one to get!

Current Build

Acer aspire M5100
AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core 2.2GHz
4 gig of ram
Geforce 8400gs Graphics card
500 watt psu
Windows Vista home premium 32 bit

I have around £100 to spend, any advise would be more than welcome.

Cheers :)

Looks a good card, im a bit of a newb though, will it be compatible with my system?

Cant really afford to upgrade anything else at the moment, so dont want to buy an imcompatible card.

Dont mean to come accros as an idiot but i usually just buy a new system when i wanted to upgrade but due to a wife and kids can no longer afford to.

Cheers for the reply by the way!

I'd imagine it would be perfectly fine mate, any chance you can give the name of your motherboard & PSU just to be safe? :)

What size monitor did you buy?

The mainboard should be fine as you're already using an 8400GS which correct me if I'm wrong only came in PCI-E form.

Could do with checking the PSU just to be sure it will be up to the task, make and model will do, if you can find out the 12 volt rail(s) amp rating that would be even better.

The CPU could also become a bottleneck, have you considered overclocking?

EDIT: I'm too slow :(

Hi mate,

Bit more info on the psu

Cooler Master Extreme Power 500 watt
It has 2 +12V rails both with 16A

My current card is a pci express so there shouldnt be a problem there, i suppose the power will be the problem if any?

Cheers

Being doing a bit of research and im thinking of getting a hd 4850.

Just looking to see what peoples views on this, seen one on here for around £82 the MIS one i think, so would fit in nice for my £100 budget.
