Graphics card better than 360?

The reason is blindingly obvious, they are consoles therefore the games are optimised for the specification of that console and they don't have to cater for a variety of hardware as there isn't any.
In computers there is a huge variety of hardware to choose from, operating systems, drivers etc that need to be catered for therefore reducing the level of optimisations that can be made.
Yeah I know, I was just waiting for someone such as yourself to explain it ;) But the fact remains that devs rarely cater to just one graphics card, so my point still stands - x1950 XT does not come close to beating PS3/360 ;)

Yeah will they ever end it only takes a few mins on google to find things out, fact is a console will never beat a pc graphically, it may have a slight edge when it comes out but that soon goes.

This a pointless threads as a console costs a snip compared too a pc card, hell for the price of a 8800gtx you can get ps3 with a blueray player not really hard to work out which is best value for money is it, nothing wrong with the ps3/360 gfx i not seen anything on the pc that comes close to gow graphics yet and is actually fun to play, but they will always be behind what the pc can produce if developers actually optimised games on the pc.

you seen gears of war running on the 360 at 1900x1080? no way would a x1900 handle that, its more on the level of 8800ultra.

and as time goes on the 360 will have more life in it than any gfx card for the pc.

1080i ... not 1080p, that one character makes a big difference. It's only doing half the res. So in reality, per frame, its doing less then the resolution of a 19" widescreen. Admitidly it then has to turn around around and do the other half of the screen, but since it never has to hold an entire full resolution image its simple 60fps at less then 1280x1024. Im pretty sure a x1950 is going to be able to do that when unreal 3 comes out, which will look better no doubt.

The X360 has what is basically a a hyrbid R500. It has the unified shaders like the R600, but no doubt much more primitive, and some of the grunt of an x1900, but its probably just an x1800 on steroids. I reckon the x1900 was developed off it, given how close it followed from the x1800.

The PS3 had what is actually a 7800 chip. Rumour has it that as Sony only contracted Nvidia last minute, it was a raw 7800 that went into it, mostly unmodified. The actual specs quoted make it look like an overclocked 7800gtx, but the performance specs seem a little higher... but could be completly fabricated.

The real advantage that gears of war has over other pc games isnt so much the graphics card of the x360, but the coding genius's at Epic. The Unreal 3 engine simply makes anything shine. (in a good non bloom hdr way)

Gow wasnt originally rendered in 1080p its actually 720p/1080i but if you have a 1080p set it will upscale it to 1080p.
