when you take a look at the prices of cards there can sometimes be around £20 difference between brands. just wondering what is the actual reason for this? does it really matter if you go for the cheapest? thanks

They are basically all reference cards, but from a user point of view warranties can be worth it and they vary from company to company. Both in length and service.

No it doesn't, it's usually warranties, bundled games or pre-overclocked cards that carry a premium. They're based on the same reference cards produced at the same facility, albeit some are cherrypicked to be better overclocking cards.

Don't really know the reason but when the cards are all built to reference spec then just buy the cheapest. Maybe spend a bit more if there is a better warranty/bundle.

Edit: Bit slow

im upgrading now. i know that about the warranty its just some cards are still more with identical spec. example..

gainward 4850 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-070-GW

his 4850 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-099-HT

both same with 2 yr warranty but 15 quid difference.

The gainward cards tend to be the cheaper ones. This can be due to various reasons. Possibly:

1) Gainward undercutting their competitors
2) OCuk getting a better deal with Gainward like they did with the BFG cards a while ago
3) HIS charging extra for the brand

Edit: Also the possibility that the higher priced manufacturer has a better RMA service but this is conjecture and you would have to find out the experience of others with their RMA service.
