Graphics Card broke?

Hello Everybody,

I was on my computer last night working completely fine "I'm obviously on my laptop currently" and I woke up this morning and went to turn the computer on and the Fans were really loud and i mean LOUD. I noticed the monitor was not turning on, and the computer is connected via DVI directly to the graphics card. I first presumed it was the monitor, untill i connected it to the built in graphics card on the motherboard the monitor worked perfectly and the graphics card was still blurring away being really loud. The monitor won't work on the graphics card and I've never faced this issue before.

I currently/did have GF 8800GT 640M 512MB DDR3 which I guess has decided to stop working. The computer works perfectly fine, and the monitor works perfectly fine when connected to the built in graphics card on my motherboard and the fact the fan on the nvidia graphics card is extremely loud so i guess i have to accept its broke.

I've just gone and ordered Point of View GeForce GTX 260 896MB GDDR3 and it should arrive Tuesday, so I gather once i install that It should work perfectly fine and I should be able to attach my monitor to it.

I am just finding it all strange seeming its worked perfectly before, and i shut it down at 10pm last night and woke up this morning and turned it on to find out it was no longer working.....

@OP - this happened to me once. Everything was fine, I had finished what I was doing and switched off the computer. About an hour later I turned it on and experienced much the same as you.

There is a point where something works and then when it doesn't. Very much black and white. The bit in the middle I find mystifying sometimes. :)

Enjoy your new card. :)

It's just seriously annoying, My computer had always worked perfectly fine and I was even playing World of Warcraft last night. I literally turned on the computer this morning, and it just made the loud fan sound which turned out to be the graphics card and the monitor was no longer working but turns out it works on the motherboard graphics card. So I just have to accept I guess the graphics card decided to break on me :( I just now have to wait till Tuesday to install my new graphics card

After what happened with my PC I also bought a really cheap back up card just so I could at least have basic functionality and be able to play one or two old games. Though as you have a laptop there is no need for that I guess.
