Hi hope your all keeping well and having a good day :)
I am new to the forum and this is my first post, I have a few questions and would love some answers from people that have a far greater knowledge than I do so here goes:

I'm wanting to upgrade my graphics card over the next couple of weeks but stuck between 3 cards and don't really know which one to choose. I currently have 2 asus GTX560ti's (SLI) But I really don't like the issues I am having when playing certain games so I just want to sell them on and just go for one gpu.

The 3 cards are a gtx690, gtx680 2GB or gtx680 4gb. I was all set to buy the 690 as I have the money (thank you student loan) but then came across that as its actually 2 gtx 680s the vram is a straight 4GB but 2 2GBs. And as its two separate cards does it run the same as SLI?? I want this card to be future proof so would appreciate some answers as I really don't have much of a clue :)

Many thanks for all your help

If you're gaming at 1080P the GTX 690 is a total waste of money, not to mention it's still a dual card... A single HD 7950 or GTX 670 will be fine.

My advice, buy a HD 7950, save the rest of the student loan for going out and having a good time..

You will have some of the same SLI issues with a 690 as with two 560Tis.

At 1080p I would seriously just go for a 7950 for a little over 200GBP (less if you factor in the free games) as it will pretty much destroy anything at 1080p, especially if you overclock it. If you really want to push the boat out get a 7970 for 300GBP, as that is now faster than a GTX 680 and has plenty of vram if that's your worry.

Hey guys thanks for the replies, much appreciated. The 690 is out the window if it has the same SLI issues. I'll look into the 7970 and see how it compares with the 680. I really like the nvidia cards so will probably go for the 680 but not sure if I should go for the 2GB or the 4GB model?? I know that no games, without mods, really go over 2GB Vram but i'm thinking towards the future so your thoughts would be grateful.

@psychodil - The issues happen when I run some games even after I import profiles for them. An example of this was that when I was playing Medal of Honor Warfighter my frame rate would be awful on ultra graphics when I really should have been able to run this game with no problems. Other games like The Witcher 2 and Sleeping dogs also had the same issues. just a general pain in the ass really :)

Oh ok, perhaps you were running out of Vram?
Also whats with the -26? Are you predicting west hams goal difference at the end of the season? :D

Yeah i've only recently learned about VRAM, yesterday actually, so you could be right there.
haha I wish mate. No it was Joe Cole's number when he played for the Hammers and he was my favourite when I was younger so the number has stuck :)

iv got a student loan but doesnt mean il waste it on a 690 worth £800 lol! Get a 7950 best bang for buck or a 670! Thats more than enough and will max out games of today.

I don't know if a 7950 or a gtx 670 will max out all games.. You'll be closer to maxing out with a 7970 or a gtx 680

When all are over clocked the 670 and the 7950 are only 5% slower than their bigger brothers. That's not going to be noticeable.

Yup looking at rusty's thread on his overclocked 7950 he was getting similar performance compared to his old 680 gtx in bf3. Taking that into an account westham-26 can buy the 7950 and save himself the money, especially being a student.

Hey guys thanks for all the advice I've decided to go for the 680 seems the best option as I want to stay with nvidia and this card will hopefully keep me going for the next few years.
All your knowledge has helped a lot thank you :)
