I have an X1800XT and I pretty much every game I play I'm getting artifacts. It was running hot at one point 100Cish and this was causing major artifacts and sometimes crashing. Since then I've cleaned it (it was very very dusty) however I'm still getting some artifacts on the screen i.e. random lines shooting into the sky. Any ideas what else it could be or is my graphics card just borked?

I've checked the temp and its around 60C when I was just playing Test Drive Unlimited...

(By the way I hope I have the definition of artifacts right, basically just random lines coming off objects or a matte 'wall' infront of me i.e. in Left 4 Dead that I can run through in game however it still appears there...)

You could try underclocking it, see if that helps, if its on its way out this will often help as its not stressing it so much, reduce the clock and memory speeds by 10-20 MHz

Ahh bummer...
I'll try underclocking it in a bit.

Is say a £50 modern graphics card a similar speed to what my X1800XT is?

If you can afford to dbl that, get this, its an amazing card and realy good value and will destroy your old one ;) alternatively if you cant afford it look at this one which should be about same as your old

Before you go replacing the card it would probably be wise to reinstall the drivers, I vaguely remember similar artefacts in far cry after I'd screwed around with some settings.

I assume the temps you are showing are GPU ? Have you looked at / monitired your VRM temps ? It may be that these are overheating and causing the artifacting ?
