Graphics Card Dead, Advice Needed

Hi all, I'm trying to help my brother with his laptop but it's beyond my expertise I fear.

Essentially when he tries to play a game his framerates are unplayable. Talking like 2 FPS. So this is presumably a graphics card fault. I ran some benchmark tests and anything involving the CPU seems to run fine, but tests that are GPU intensive perform very badly. He was previously getting decent FPS on the games he can no longer play.

All temperatures in the laptop are fine, max is about 60c. Drivers have been reinstalled multiple times and seem to be working as intended.

Our conclusion is that it's a GPU hardware fault. We're looking at replacing the GPU, this is where some help is really required please.

The laptop is an HP 8560p Elitebook. We're unsure as to whether the graphics card is discreet or not. I believe the GPU in question is a 6470M. Can this be replaced or do we need to replace the motherboard itself? He believes the motherbord model is: 646967-001.

Thank you!

The cpu has Intel HD 3000 graphics chip built in. It is possible you are trying to game on this chip instead of the discreet 6470M, I would check if this is the case by using the program gpu-z. If it is then you may need to go into the bios and de-select the intel hd graphics and select the discreet card. If you are lucky then that is what has happened. If not then you are looking at replacing the discreet card which may not be possible anyway.
