Hi guys,
I currently have one of the worst dual core desktop systems on the forum
my spec:
Athlon 4200 x2 939 (overclocked to 2.6ghz)
ASrock dual sata 939 motherboard
2gig ram
Nvidia 8800gt graphics card (factory overclocked 650mhz core) - now dead!
running win xp 32bit
my system did run all I want it too on fairly decent settings (barely) and so I was planning on sticking with it until early next year when the bulldozer/intel equivalent next generation cpu's came out. I was also planning on upgrading my graphics card then.
The problem is my graphics card has died and I'm not sure what the best option is now as I was planning on full cpu/motherboard and also graphics upgrade at the same time - I do definitely want to upgrade to the new generation cpu's when they come out, and I don't really want to upgrade too often or upgrade (cpu/montherboard) now then have the hassle of selling and upgrading to new generation cpu/motherboard in a few months time (speaking of which does anyone have a clearer date for when the new cpu's are due out??)
the options I have now are either
1: spend (would it be around £60???) to get another graphics card with the same/slightly better performance of my 8800gt to tide me over in which case please recommend me one (I don't know the ATI equivalent), but the thing with this option is that the £60 or so I would spend on this equivalent card now may be better to go towards a better card instead (as below).
Or
2: Do I buy a really decent card now (for my next system) and then just upgrade the cpu/motherboard/ram when the bulldozer/Intel's come out, but with this option the money i would spend on a decent card now could buy an even better card in a few months time when I upgrade the rest of my system and also a really decent card now would be bottlenecked by the rest of my system.
what are you opinions/recommendations please guys? what would you do? would you bother with a full upgrade now (inc cpu/mobo/RAM) or would you advise (like I was planning) to hold off until the next CPU's come out.
I thought I'd best put in general hardware as this is a bit of a cpu/general upgrade query rather than exclusively graphics card.
thanks for any replies/opinions
