A friend had a problem with his PC, he said that when he turned the PC on there was no display on the monitor.. it was a Packard Bell machine he bought about 1.5 years ago and had a 9600 GS (pci-express) card in it.
I suggested that it might be the Video card and loaned him a very, very basic card to try.. the PC worked fine with this card so assuming it was the Video card he bought a new card an Ati 5750).. Unfortunatly this didn't solve the problem as it also would not output anything to the monitor..
I tried a mid-range card in it that I knew worked and that also did the same, nothing output to monitor from bootup.. This afternoon I found a 7900 GS card and tried that in the machine and it worked OK.
Any ideas what the problem could be ??
I have a feeling it could be something to do with power, could it be that the PSU has developed a fault and is powerful enough to run some cards and not others?? is that a possibility or could it be the motherboard or even something simple? He can't really afford to buy bits to try.
The machine is running fine with my loaned basic card.
