if there is nothing wrong with it and it plays the games you play at max, why upgrade at all?

spend the money on something else i say or just save it :)

He said He can't run games at max now. I'm in the same situation with the same graphics card. I'm gonna get 8800gt or g92 GTS dependant on price. Should last till mid next year when next gen cards hopefully have a strong mid range. Is yours a 256mb x1900xt?

I see you have an X1900XT woody, can you not cope with that for another 4-8 weeks, then if there still is no sign of the 9800's coming anytime soon then get an 8800GT or GTS when they may have dropped slightly? I cant see the point in buying a new graphics card at this point if you allready have a powerfull one.

If you cant run the games max then surely you could live with turning the settings down slightly, shadows, AA etc..

If you are prepared to get a 8800GT at least wait a few days till the new 8800GTS come out. Gibbo has already said OCUK has around 1000+ 8800GTS in stock ready for launch just waiting for the NDA to be lifted. So at least wait to see the cost of the new GTS then decide which one to get.

Mines at 256mb aswell mate and its really starting to struggle at my native res of 1680 by 1050. I think its well worth getting one of the g92 8800's. There has never been a better mid range card out and when stocks calm down they will sell at their RRP prices. I would love to wait for the new 9800 but its only rumours about a February release and how much is this card gonna cost £400-500? The g92 8800 will be fine until the 9800 gets a mid range which is affordable. The only game to really stress the 8800gt is crysis and I'm sure you won't mind dropping the res and eye candy for a game you will probably play once?

If its £500 I certianly wont be buying it that would be a stupid price, I'll be buying it when it hits £380 exactly or under.

How much was the ultra when it first appeared? I can't remember that far back lol! My big worry is that the hype surrounding the 9800 and the probable lack of a competitive card from ATI is just gonna mean one thing, a massive kick in the knackers price wise for the consumer! :(

The ultra wa £500-£600 when it was first out I think!! I always buy the best bang for buck card at the time and this 8800GT has been the most expensive graphics card I've ever bought thus far, actually it's the most expensive single component I've ever bought.

The most expensive card I bought was the radeon 9800 pro on release day. I think it was £300 plus. Fantastic card, lasted me a couple of years before it started to struggle. I think the g92 GTS is gonna have to be priced sensibly cos a couple of frames more than a GT and better cooling doesn't justify a big hike in price. When the GT's come down to their RRP they will be a bargain for their perfomanc/price. Fingers crossed but I'm not that optimistic. I smell a price of £250 which certainly won't tempt me.
