graphics card driver help

I built my girlfriend a pc today with vista ultimate 32bit edition and when ever i try and install the x1900xt graphics card driver/controls the screen goes blank and says kz out of range, now the only way to get rid of it is to plug the pc in to my hd tv via hdmi cable and then uninstall the driver, i have even tried lowering resolution but no go, any help would be very appreciated. :D
 
KZ? Sure it's not HZ?

If it's the latter, it'll be to do with the refresh rate I would imagine - and you'd want to lower that before installing.
