After firing up Metro 2033 and struggling to get even 30fps in the outside areas on low quality, I've come to accept I need to replace my 6950.

When I set resolution to 800x600, the frame rate goes up massively so it's definitely gpu bound.

If you have access to the MM, look for a 280x or if you're lucky, you may get a 290 around the £150-175 mark.

If you want new:

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £214.99
1 x Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 285 Dual-X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £169.99
1 x VTX3D Radeon R9 280 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £149.99
Total : £544.57 (includes shipping : £8.00).

The reason I've added in cards over your budget is you could sell the free games and make some of your money back.

You could also sell the 6950 on the MM to make up the difference.

If i were you I will definitely go for AMD Radeon R9 280X or if you are an NVIDIA fan consider GeForce GTX 760. But the former is more faster than the latter.

BTW R9 280X costs £179 atm but the extra investment will take down the 280 easily because the shaders are 2048:1792, in other words, it's the difference between 7970 GHz Edition and 7950.

Second hand will offer great value, and the above suggestions are very good. Seeing as the AMD 285 has been thrown into the mix, I'll suggest the GTX770 for the same price, that is if £20 over budget isn't too much?

Brand new, however, the VTX 280 will most likely be the best value for money card you can get right now. The GTX760 is better priced, but is somewhat slower overall.

A stupid question, where is the MM? It seems I can't access to the link you posted at the end, is it only available for senior users?
