I was looking for a graphics card for a new rig I am building. I was trying to decide between the 7850 2GB AMD card or the 560Ti 448 Nvidia card. I will mainly be using the PC for gaming.

Was going to use it with an i5 2500K, 8GB of RAM and a 650W power supply.

Quite a few options to be fair.

As above the GTX 480 will give you the most performance if you don't mind the heat/power consumption/noise at load.

GTX 570, offers similar performance to the 480 but runs cooler, quieter etc.

Radeon HD6950 available for £169.99 on pre order or pay abut more for a 7850 which is pretty much the same in terms of performance.

Have a read of some reviews and see what performs best in games you actually play.

To save a bit of money and so that it fits in the small case I want I chaged the power supply to a Cooler Master GX 550W, would this still be ok to power a card of this kind of level, with an i5 processor?

If you're worried about power consumption then a 7850 might be the best bet for this price range as they have very low power requirements.

I'm no expert but a 550W power supply could probably power most single card setups though. So it might not be an issue.

Edit: Just notice you said you have a small case? Might be another reason to go 7850 as it's small.

I liked the look of the 7850 myself but looking at the review on tom's hardware it gets beat by the 560Ti in a few of the tests, think AMD need to get the price down if this card is to compete.

Cooler Master CM-690 II Lite Dominator Case - Black, I wanted somthing a little more portable for taking to uni. I keep seeing conflicting reports between the two, its tempting to save a little money and just go with the 560ti.

I'd prob agree with stuart too, if you're not desperate for a card and can give it a few weeks you might see some price drops.

I'm in the same boat as you and same specs as you. Currently have a GTX460.
I was about to get the GTX560Ti but then saw the 7850. I do like how Nvidea has the PysX on the Nvidea cards though. But then there is the GTX460 (448) version. I have always liked MSI as every time I had BFG they have died on me. So like how they have good coolers on them. The 448 isn't available with MSI so for me it's between the;

MSI 560Ti frzR at £180
OR
MSI HD 7850 twin frzR (but is preorder only)

Unless someone has better choice? There's so many at different levels that try drag you that extra £20 and before ya know it ya climbed stairs to spending top dollar grrrrr
