Bought myself the samsung 24" 2433bw. I also bought the EVGA gtx 260 ssc at the same time. But now I am thinking maybe I should get a better card so that I can run everything at max resolution(1920x1200) and settings? Or would it be a waste of money to pay an extra £100 for a gtx 285? As I could always buy another gtx 260 later this year?

Please help if you can, as I am slightly regretting this purchase ATM!

I would have thought a gtx 260 would have handled that res with ease, as the 4870 1gb does, and both are about equal, also the 285 is not worth the extra, so id go for the getting another 260 at a later date option, or sell the 260 and get a 4870 X2, but that would depend on what the rest of your specs are, and if your PSU would be able to handle one. :)

I was under the impression that a GTX 260 could quite happily handle everything at 1920x1200?

I'm using a GTX 280 and I throw everything to full and it's fine.

I guess that helps, when playing the beggining part of Far Cry 2, I get 30-40 fps at max settings/res/2xAA. Is that acceptable?

Sorry for noob questions, but I am coming from an 8600gt on a generic 17" monitor :'(

Only thing my single 260GTX maxcore didn't handle fine at those kinda res was far cry 2 at ultra settings (4x AA). Everything else is 60+fps.

I ended up going SLI just for one game that I don't even play any more lol.

BTW dropping settings down from ultra to high in FC2 increase framerates loads with only minimal visual difference.

Try playing FC2 with 2x AA, still looks nice and I got a few fps increase. I will also probably further OC the GTX to 710mhz, maybe that will help....

Might give you 1 or 2 fps, I doubt you'll notice any difference though. What is the spec of the rest of your system?

intel i7 920
6gb ddr3 partiot ram (although wont boot with 6gb, will have to replace mobo/ram I think)
asus p6t deluxe
EVGA GTX 260 SSC
Corsair 850w

Depend some people play games at 25fps and are happy but some no. For example I cannot play games if I do not have minimum 60fps.

sounds good to me. if you are thinking of getting something else i can highly recommend a 4850x2

I Also thought that the 260 should be suffice for a 24" but not ful out true then id guess wait out for a 4890 shoul dbe excellet value or get the 280 now! lower priced now

It's difficult to ask other people's opinions on weather a set amount of FPS is acceptable for a certain game since everyone's tolerance level is different. The question that really needs to be asked is, does it feel smooth enough for you?

As Rybo89 has stated the problem most likely lies with the voltages. You will probably need to up North Bridge voltages a notch.

I went up to 1.66v but I heard that any higher will damage stuff?
