Graphics card for £250

I keep going backwards and forwards with graphics cards.

I had a faulty GTX670 and then a great deal on a 7950 fell through.

Currently I have 2 4870 running in CF.

Realistically I can justify £250 on a graphics card. I could get 1 7850 OC for £150 and then get another next year to CF.
OR 1 7950 for about £250. Will I see any advantage over the 7850?
There are lots of versions of the 7950 varying in price. Are there some better than others?

I will be gaming at 1080p on a 24" monitor but would like to get a 1440 at some point.

If you have the money now, get the best single card you can find (so the 7950) that should last quite a while :D
My HD6950 plays games pretty well at 3240x1920 if i turned stuff like AA down, even though most people would recommend multiple current gen cards :P So the 7950 should be more than double the performance at 1440 ;)

DcuII-quieter under load but dumps the heat into the case, not the end of the world though.

From what I've seen, the Ice-Q's are higher clockers on the core though, I have 2 in CrossFire capable of 1240Mhz juiced up, had another that got returned due to a noisey cooler that also hit 1200Mhz.:)

OK. done some checking.

This one - 1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) £239.99

Looks very good, however What is the difference to this one - 1 x Asus HD 7950 DirectCU II TOP V2 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £263.99

Is it just a different cooler? Do they design their own PCB's?

Sorry for the dumb questions

It's also worth noting that both of these cards take more than 2 slots. The Asus one takes two and a half slots meaning it covers two PCIe slots underneath where its installed instead of one (three total). I think the HIS one starts off as a dual slot and protrudes into the third slot area towards the back of the card (where the fan is). You'll need to ask someone with the card if the third slot is still usable.

If you have the space, these are both excellent 7950s.

Thanks for your replies.

Three slot is not an issue at the moment as I am not using any expansion cards. I guess that if I want to Crossfire this at a later date I will need to get a custom cooler to get back to two slots as dictated on motherboard.

HIS is not a brand I have heard of before, If I CF in the future do I need to make sure it is the same brand & model, or can i just get any 7950?

For £250 there;s really only one option, a 7950.

If you want to max games @ 60FPS @ 1440 then you're talking spending over £600 minimum.

Totally different ball game mate.

General consensus round here seems to be the ones to go for are:

I've got the 7850 of this card and it's fantastic, really quiet and cool.

I'd avoid an MSI AMD 7 series card like the plague, there have been a lot of problems with them.
