Hi Guys,

Looking to place an order tonight for a new pre-built gaming system from OCuk,
so question is which GPU do I go for?

The PC will be used for gaming, stuff like BF3, Skyrim, Anno 2070, GW2 etc and want to get the best out of each game and will be played on this monitor: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-055-DE&groupid=17&catid=1425&subcat=

with a Samsung 24" monitor that will be used for web browsing etc while gaming.

The card I was looking at was an HD7970, from what I read it seems like a very good choice and will last ages, however a few guys I game with say I would be better with an Nvidia, something like the GTX580.

What are your guys thoughts? I'm leaning towards the 7970 as it looks to be a very good card. If I do go for one, which make would you choose?

Many thanks.

Ah, they would be the Nvidia owners club then.

Bottom line is the 7970 is faster and around the same price as a 580 3gb so you would be very silly indeed to buy the 580.

Not only that but the 580 has been around for yonks and not worth the asking price any more. It's old technology.

That pretty much confirms my thoughts, so thanks for that.

Next question is, which 7970 would you go for? I was looking at the Sapphire card.
