No point beating about the bush, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to PC building.

Anyways how would you put the order of the performance of graphics cards for the 8800 series?
Am I right with this (best to worse):

Ultra
GTX OC2
GTX
GTS OC2
GTS
GT OC2
GT

Any help much appreciated :)

you dont need to get the OC2 you can get unclocked and clock it yourself, should end up exactly the same.. and there is little difference between all those cards, so you should pick depending on price, have not checked prices for a while but when i got my GT, 512, the GTX was double the price for 5% better...

ohh and make sure its the NEW GT/GTS, (512mb G92)

Its in that order but the X2 beats most of them so depends on what resolution you are going to play at.

I'm not sure if the X2 or GTX/Ultra would be your best bet. Maybe get a 8800GTS since you are not planning to use a high resolution. And the 8800GTS 512 is at a very good price to would possibly beat the GTX in many games at that resolution :)

Yeah, I was thinking about the GTS. It's also a deal offer this week so that seems like my best bet.

Also I'm currently using 32bit XP. Will this be a problem with Crysis or DX10. I'm sure i read something about this somewhere. I'll just get vista if needs be....

Probably better to wait until.....

Vista service pack 1
More games written for DX10
Games written which are so much better in DX10 than DX9
Games written that only work with DX10
More powerful Graphics cards which cope better with DX10 (assuming it is the gpu & not the software)

ATM I do not see any compelling reason to upgrade to Vista/DX10 .

My vote would be for GTS although if you want to save a few £ a GT would be fine at that res

Looking at the current progress of Windows 7, i may well take the plunge and get Vista Home Premium 64bit in the near future, again once SP1 is released as that is what i am really waiting for.

Though on first look, SP1 doesnt seem to have made any massive steps forward and looks to have made a lot of little improvements. In some cases, however, it has actually degraded performance, but is probably better to have than not.
