Thanks for the comments.
I’ve just specced this pc to buy myself, can anyone think of any improvements? It seems pretty good to me.
PC
If it was me i would put that bit extra and get a cf x38/x48 mobo but if you have no plans what so ever to CF good choice.
Drop the q6700 for a q6600. The q6600 overclock as high or even higher than the q6700 so you are wasting your money there. Saving £47.
Swap the sound card for the Asus Xonar D2 7.1 PCI. I just think they are better than creative offerings especially in Vista
Swap the memory for normal 6400 such as the G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-6400C4 for £70.49 saving another £17.62. You don't need the higher speed memory with q6600 even overclocking as 9 x 400 (PC6400 speed) = 3.6Ghz and doubtful you will be aiming higher than that.
Use the £64.62 saved to buy either a p45 or x38/48 mobo as the p35 board is only pci-e 1.1 and will only run at 8x speed if you ever decide to get another 4870. p45 are better since they are pci-e 2 slots but still run at 8x in xfire. safest to get a x38 board such as DFI Lan Party DK X38-T2R Intel X38 for an extra £12 as both slots are pci-e 2 and run at 16x speed.
Also since you don't want to upgrade your psu later (pain in ass to do so) I might suggest getting a OCZ ModXStream 900w Silent SLI Ready for £123.36 or a Coolermaster Real Power 850w Modular or a Tagan TG800-BZ 800w Modular BZ Series PSU
With the £17 still left on savings with my above changes, suggest you buy an aftermarket cpu cooler such as Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler (A little bit more but you might not go for my psu upgrade so you will have plenty left over.
Oh and unless you are planning to go RAID much better to buy just one 1Tb drive (on offer this week) for the same money as two 500gb drives.
Apart from that it's fine![]()
I think i can agree with that except the sound card. I have no problems with the vista myself and find the front drive panel very useful.
