Okey, never been one for graphics card. Mainly cause I only have a laptop which has a intergrated 32mb graphics card (woot!). Lol, anyway, I plan on getting a new computer. I saw a monitor I like but it sayed it doesnt have DVI input, only Analog D Sub or something like that.

I dont know jack to do with graphics cards and monitors so can you explain *** difference with the two and if I should get a monitor which does have DVI input.

Finally, whats the difference between PCI and APG?

Thanks,

Dave

PS. Sorry for stupid-ness.

Most new graphics cards come with DVI connectors now but its not a problem , Thay allso come with little adapter's that you plug in to the DVI plug then you can plug your monitor in to that .

Not a very good pic..but you get the idea >>

Is there any difference in picture quallity etc between the DVI and Analog?

I think that there is a difference not least because you aren't converting the signal from a digital source(the PC) to an analogue output(the monitor), it is subjective and depends on the quality of the DVI-analogue converter itself amongst other things. I've got a tft which supports both analogue and DVI(LG 1710B) and when using the analogue input the picture seems a little less clear, that could be a problem with the convertor I was using or a poor implementation of the analogue input on the monitor itself but it wasn't quite as good as DVI.

//edit PCI-E is the new standard which graphics cards use, it offers more bandwidth than AGP did(although not yet needed) and there are now a wider choice of graphics cards available so if buying new go PCI-E.

Mind me asking what card youve got btw.

What will you be using the card for... gaming ?

I have a BFG 7800 GT OC :D got it from OCUK and its awsome .. go have a look on the OCUK site it has all the details you need .

This card has been praised by no end of reviews and is not a bad price ... And comes with a LIFETIME Manufacturer Warranty ,,, Bang for buck its a deal .

Thay allso have one of the best support set ups around ...ask around and you will find a lot of good words for the BFG family

Hey,

Mainly for general use, but occasional gaming. Want to be able to game more on comp than I can atm.

Yer, ive heard BFG are good.

Cheers,

Dave

Dave, you'll need a PCI-E graphics card and a DVI monitor is better, but not earth shatteringly so. I run two monitors at work (Dell Ultrasharp 19") one is on DVI and the other is on VGA... I couldn't tell you which is which without looking behind them... so it's not a huge issue.

In terms of which to get, set yourself a budget and stick to it. Look out for good deals and ask on here. There is no point in buying a £200 grphics card to go with a £50 cpu in my opinion, so try to balance things.

Additionally if you aren't sure about which card to get, try a decent integrated chipset, like the nVidia 6150 series of motherboards. You'll get okay performance out of it, but it will give you a taster and then you can decide how much more you want to improve it.
